1. Purpose and Scope
This policy provides important information for patients receiving prescription medications from Radiant Care Pharmacy, whether for weight management, hormone therapy, wellness support, or other clinically appropriate purposes. It includes your rights under Florida law, details about the medications that may be prescribed, and your responsibilities when participating in any medication therapy program.
2. Types of Medications Provided
Your prescription may include:
- FDA-approved medications dispensed in accordance with manufacturer labeling
- Compounded medications prepared in licensed Florida facilities following Florida Board of Pharmacy regulations
- Some compounded medications may not be reviewed or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but meet applicable quality and safety standards under Florida law
Your prescribing provider will determine the most appropriate medication based on your health history, treatment goals, and applicable clinical guidelines.
3. Weight Loss Programs
If your treatment includes a weight loss or weight management program, Florida Statute 501.0575 (“Weight Loss Bill of Rights”) requires that you be informed of the following:
WARNING: Rapid weight loss may cause serious health problems. Rapid weight loss is defined as losing more than 1½ to 2 pounds per week or more than 1% of body weight per week after the second week of participation in a program.
- Consult your personal physician before starting any weight-loss program.
- Only permanent lifestyle changes, such as making healthy food choices and increasing physical activity, promote long-term weight loss.
- Qualifications of our partner prescribing providers are available upon request.
You have the right to:
- Ask questions about the potential health risks of the program, its nutritional content, psychological support, and educational components.
- Receive an itemized statement of the actual or estimated price, including any extra products, services, supplements, examinations, and laboratory tests.
- Know the actual or estimated duration of the program.
- Know the name, address, and qualifications of the dietitian or nutritionist who has reviewed and approved the program, if applicable.
4. Medication Administration
If your medication requires self-administration, such as injections:
- You will receive instructions and educational materials on proper technique
- Risks may include local site reactions (redness, bruising, discomfort), allergic reactions, and rare systemic effects
- If self-administering injections, it is recommended to have a responsible adult present for at least 30 minutes afterward
- You should have access to an epinephrine auto-injector.
5. Potential Risks and Limitations
While medication therapy can be beneficial, it carries potential risks such as:
- Nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea
